a couple of changes to hi hfx

hi peeps,

i’ve recently made a couple of small updates to hihfx.ca. because i have a small email list here, i figured i’d give anyone that’s interested a little rundown on my latest tinkerings.

– i combined the “what is hi hfx” and “what isn’t hi hfx” dropdowns into a single menu. this way, you don’t have to collapse two separate menus in order to actually save some scrolling space.

– the “when your next messages will be posted” blurb has been moved to the top of the message board, alongside the “total messages” and “last updated” bits. i felt like it made more sense to have it there, rather than at the bottom of the site.

– i am toying with a new idea for the site—currently called “the people’s playlist”. over the course of this project, a few submitted messages have been song recommendations. i’ve compiled these songs at at the very bottom of the page underneath my “weekly message”. if you have a song you’d like to share, send me a message like normal, and i’ll also add it to the people’s playlist. i didn’t want to deal with downloading audio files or copyrighted music or streaming accounts, etc, so the songs just go to youtube links for now.

i’d love to know what you think of this feature! is it making hi hfx be too much? i know youtube could be considered a social media, and i don’t know how i feel about linking out to other sites in general. however, i also thought this could be a really wholesome idea that could allow people to discover what haligonians are listening to… anyways, send me a message and let me know :)
